You have all the time in the world

...I really mean that. After an extended winter holiday of travellin' and boozin' across the Great White North, the blog has finally settled down, at least for the next six months or so. So long Canada, you've been sweet. But it's time to change gears. The blog has gone to Europe, specifically, the Netherlands. I'm ready to kick it up a notch.

Modeselektor was recently touring North America, but they've crossed the pond too -- playing Haarlem on the 31st. Full tour dates on MySpace.

Just give me one more day

Here's the fourth installment of the never ending series... the fucking best remixes ever.

This one's kind of obvious; it's living legends New Order crossed with remixer extraordinaire Phones. Though I adore New Order, their 2005 single "Krafty" is definitely not one of my favourites. It's a little too pop for my taste. Phones speeds up and evens out the track with some crazy warped basslines.

The "reality" is, this remix could be mistaken as a renegade piece of Stuart Price's repertoire. Amazing.

Eine Kleine Riton - Resurrected

This post was DMCA'd. Maybe I should've have dropped the M. word...Thankfully, I've learned my lesson from previous takedowns and I archive all my posts. Here it is without the supposed incriminating material. Just trying to spread the word about Riton.

Happy Inauguration Day, everyone. Let's hope the new administration will do something about rogue DMCA takedowns. We bloggers are counting on your support, Mr. President. You know, after you've taken care of the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, carbon emissions, sustainable energy, trade deficit, etc.

Riton, a.k.a. Henry Smithson, is a British musician/producer who keeps on giving. He made big impressions last year, and lucky for us, he's got all sorts of business coming up this year. Here are some of them famous Riton Re-Rubs.

Hercules and Love Affair "You Belong (Riton Re-Rub)" [DMCA'd!]

The Human League "The Sound of the Crowd (Riton Re-Rub)" [DMCA'd!]

Riton is also Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. He released the self-titled debut last year, and it's like nothing out there (despite the fact that it's a Modular record). As suggested by the German title, it's got some prominent krautrock elements, but the overall sound is very 21st century. This is just one of the gorgeous tracks off the album. Sample and/or buy a little night music at Amazon.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik "Bardolator" [DMCA'd!]

Smithson's other other alias (with DFA's Ben Rymer) is Gucci Soundsystem, about to tour Australia. If you're lucky enough to be in Ozland, here's the list of Riton ragers to attend.

January 23rd – Bandits, Sydney
January 24th – Pulse Radio Boat Party, Sydney (day)
January 24th – La Di Da, Melbourne (night)
January 29th – Edingborough Castle, Adelaide
January 30th – Elsewhere, Gold Coast
January 31st – Lick It @ Barsoma, Brisbane

Oh that rock 'n'...

Calvin Harris doesn't write songs, he writes choruses. And we love him for it. This song is the b-side to his first single, "The Girls." Kind of old, but solid gold.

Expect more from everyone's favourite ElectroScot later this year. He performed his new song, "I'm Not Alone," on NYE in Sydney. It's quite different from I Created Disco, but that's to be expected. It seems Mr. Harris has moved on from the 80s and fully embraced the eurotrance 90s.

The winter of our discontent

Has it really come to this? Yes, it has. I'm going to talk about the weather. This will take two seconds: to people who are complaining about this recent cold spell... please stop. The only thing worse than -30˚C is hearing people bitch about it. Welcome to the Great Canadian winter; wear warm clothing and deal... with these choice tracks.

Classixx "Cold Act Ill" [YSI]

Arcade Fire "Cold Wind" [Mediafire]

I never thought I would end up doing one of those posts featuring songs with a common word via iTunes search either.

The blog is going downhill.

Let's pretend we know what 1963 looks like

Because I don't usually give a care about award ceremonies, and I don't really listen to RJD2, this post is an ultra rare exception. The Golden Globes were last night, and AMC's Mad Men took best TV drama for the second year in a row. Bearing in mind the series is only two seasons old... that's two for two. I reckon that's quite swell.

Mad Men is huge and doesn't really need much more promotion. After all, a show about advertising should probably have the best campaigns around. Despite all the ads, the series genuinely earned its many awards and favourable reviews. If you haven't seen it, this little blogger highly recommends that you at least try it. I suppose the gratuitous office drinking, smoking, and sex of early 1960s New York may not be for everyone.

Here's the song used for the opening theme.

Bonus: The Simpsons' version?

Maybe in the next world

Moz is back, and cannot be touched. He is a living legend. (His hair is also legendary.) Unfortunately, it seems that bits and pieces from his upcoming Years of Refusal have leaked. How dismally predictable... "well it happens a lot 'round here."

All time favourite:

More recently (i.e. less than 15 years old):

Post NYFE

The annual tradition of excessive New Year's Eve debauchery has made each New Year's Day a painful experience to say the least. On top of the physical hurting, there's the underlying moral guilt associated with being unproductive the entire day. I couldn't even blog; it was tragic. Thus, I declare the real beginning of 2009 to be January 2nd. When I'm (finally) feeling better.
